Moonshiny night
- Poetry of Li Yu

《菩萨蛮·花明月暗笼轻雾》

English Rendering

In the incense,little flowers grow.

it's a good time to go to a tryst with you.

lightly i sneak into your bedroom like moonshine.

silk shoes i carry, kiss me tenderly in this night.

Cuddle up to you in the Southern boudoir,

spoiling me like i'm the queen of this world.

So wishful to be your mistress, baby, touch me,

groan like a kitten,my heart only fires for you.

Reader's Companion

The Essence of the Verse

Classical Chinese poetry thrives on Concision and Ambiguity. Without tense or number, the words create a timeless space where the reader becomes the co-creator of the poem's meaning.

Reading Between the Lines

Look for Contrasts: light and shadow, movement and stillness. Don't just translate the words; feel the Yijing (artistic conception) that lingers long after the last character.
